The Nuphonic label co-founder and Soul Jazz consultant has put together a compilation that takes us back to how people were getting down in church in the 70s and 80s. From Ricky Womack & Christian Essence's cover of Sylvester's "I Need You" to the deeply soulful and funky version of "Love Is The Message" from Dan Greer, there's a wealth of secular dance music sounds running through the music. With this release, those of us that may not have been there get a taste of what was going down. Pretty everything here will be just as effective on the dancefloor as it was in church. Nothing is minimal on this record; you get the full effect of the bands and church sized choirs. Z Records has gone to great lengths to make sure masters sound as good as possible, as well. You will not be disappointed.

music label: Z Records 2013

reviewed by Michu Meszaros 06/2013

.
